Celebrating Café des Amis – the community heartbeat behind our very first Walk+Talk

July 1, 2025

If you’ve ever laced up for a Southmead Walk+Talk, you already know the warm welcome that greets you at Café des Amis, tucked inside the Greenway Centre. This week Bristol 24/7 shone a spotlight on the café’s inspiring mission to put food sovereignty and neighbourhood wellbeing on every plate.

Run by the irrepressible duo Lyndsey & Glenn, Café des Amis has championed fresh, affordable, good-for-you dishes long before “healthy fast food” became a trend. More than that, they were early cheerleaders for Walk+Talk. In fact, our very first weekly walk set off from their doors – and it still does today. Their faith, mugs of tea and boundless encouragement helped us prove that a gentle stroll and a friendly chat can change lives.

Last month, during the café’s involvement in Food Justice Fortnight supper, our founder Ben Burch shared how community havens like Café des Amis sparked his journey to create The Allegr Foundation and roll out Walk+Talk across Bristol and beyond. Hearing that story amid the chatter of neighbours sharing a vegan curry felt like the perfect full-circle moment.

We couldn’t be prouder to call Lyndsey, Glenn and their team our friends. If you’re near Southmead (Bristol), drop in for a salad bowl or their Soup Sack veg bag, then join us for the next Walk+Talk right outside the café. Your body, mind – and taste buds – will thank you.
