“Volunteering is an act of heroism on a grand scale. And it matters profoundly.
It does more than help people beat the odds; it changes the odds."
Research shows that volunteering improves mental health by reducing stress, enhancing mood, and fostering a sense of purpose.. Studies indicate that when people engage in acts of service, they experience increased happiness and life satisfaction due to the "helper's high" triggered by this kind and altruistic behaviour.
We are recruiting volunteers to set up new Walk + Talk programmes as well as individuals to support the existing W+T locations
Lead a small group of participants, for a gentle 30-40 minute walk
Meet at a conveniently located coffee shop/community centre, followed by a cup or tea or coffee.
Ideally, we look for volunteers to commit to between 8-12 consecutive weeks
1.5 hour commitment each week.
Expenses covered by The Allegr Foundation
If you’re interested in setting up a Walk+Talk in your area, we simply need to confirm:
Friendly, welcoming, sociable and chatty.
Kind and a good listener.
Able to walk for 30-40 minutes at a gentle pace.
Please click here to let us know the times and dates you’re able to commit to, and at which location.
All Walk Leaders and participants are covered by our Public Liability Insurance, and we have the necessary safeguarding, risk assessment and T&C documents in place.
Centred around our ‘Health through Connection’ mantra - we build activity programmes, fostering human connection, to improve wellbeing.
Our flagship programme is Walk+Talk. We run this in the community, and for the military veterans. It’s a simple and effective project, that gets people active, engaged and talking. The walks accommodate absolutely everyone - and with the help of social prescribing, also offer effective signposting support to those who are especially isolated and lonely - intercepting them before potential crisis.
The formula may be simple - but its impact is proving itself very positive and significant.
We are now poised to do more - to scale the Walk+Talk programme and its impact across the UK. And hence, we are now fundraising to specifically support this development.
The money raised goes specifically to fund the running costs for this national roll out - so this programme can be duplicated to reach more towns and cities, more communities and more people.
Please complete the details below if you are interested in becoming a volunteer and want to lead a Walk&Talk. We will contact you to discuss the opportunity.
Thank you for your interest.
